Twitter Takes Further VC Funding From Union Square Ventures

Last week Twitter Inc. and Union Square Ventures announced that there was a round of venture capital funding for Twitter.  Fred Wilson at Union Square Ventures has been an early adopter of Twitter and has blogged about Twitter and his twitter use over the previous months.  It seems like a logical fit for the popular venture capitalist and popular microblogging service!

In the Twitter blog they also state that they are working with Charles River Ventures and several angel investors.

So what does all this mean for Twitter Inc. and the Twitter service that we have all got to know and love?  What will they do to gain further traction and a larger user base?  Will they build out more functionality?  Will they focus on marketing?  Will they concentrate on new countries and markets?  Will they integrate further with other social networks and or blogs?  Will they start to buy and control some of the third party developer twitter solutions?

These are all questions that will come out in the wash over the next year or so.  What is sure to be true?  Now there are 350,000 twitter accounts (maybe more), some great momentum in use of the service, a dedicated third party developer community and software and... now we have major venture capital with a vested interest to see Twitter to succeed.
